Caterpillar Excavator

Caterpillar excavator is one of the best heavy equipment tractors in the market today. Caterpillar Inc. or CAT is a US based company with its headquarters in Peoria, Illinois. CAT proudly proclaims on their website that they are "the world's largest manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, and industrial gas turbines."

CAT is one of the thirty great companies in the US whose stocks are tracked in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. It is listed in the Fortune 100 and holds rank #1 in its industry. The total assets held by Caterpillar Inc. are $30 billion.

The Caterpillar Inc's excavator is a small part of the wide range of heavy equipment being provided by CAT. They specialize in manufacturing mostly engineering vehicles, including the D9 bulldozer.

The Caterpillar D9 is a large track-type tractor designed and manufactured in-house. It can be sold with various configurations and the standard model comes with detachable large blade and a rear ripper attachment.

The D9 excavator has a gross power of 354 kW or 474 hp of gross power. It has an operating weight of 49 tons. The size ranges from the D3 57 kW or 77 hp, 8 tons, machine to the D11 698 kW or 935 hp weighing 104 tons.

The D9 excavator by Caterpillar is propelled by Caterpillar tracks and their primary use is as bulldozers. Every year, the D9 goes through changes, re-alignments, engineering enhancements and up-gradations.

Come to see of it, the D9 is the largest conventional excavator in the market. The earlier version of the D9 was called the D9L. The D9L excavator had a driving wheel located just above the track wheels.

CAT believes that this model of the caterpillar excavator has so far been the most powerful machine in the D9 series. It initially had a flywheel power of 460hp as compared to the existing D9 model.

The primary working tool of the D9 caterpillar excavator is its blade, which is affixed to the front and can be controlled by 6 hydraulic arms. It can also be controlled by the optional ripper, which is generally attached to the back.

The primary function of the blade is earthmoving and handling of bulk material like sand, metal, and rubble. The reason behind the popularity of the D9 excavator is its size, durability, reliability, and low operating costs. The only real competitor it has is the Komatsu D275A.
